Sonia makes veiled attack on Prasada

Congress president Sonia Gandhi Monday made a veiled attack on dissident leader Jitendra Prasada who has assailed the leadership for being surrounded by a ''coterie'' and the alleged lack of inner party democracy in the party.

''Freedom of expression does not mean wrongly criticising others. No one should consider one's tolerance as his weakness. One's action should be in tune with one's words and should be inspired by visionary policies and programmes'', Gandhi said without referring to Prasada who is challenging her in the November 12 polls.

In a letter to Pardesh Congress Committee delegates who form voters in the polls, Gandhi sought to touch the emotional chord of partymen by recalling the traumatic experience she had undergone following the assassinations of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

Stating that it was not easy for her to play an active role in politics in such a backdrop, she said she could not disregard the sentiments of thousands of party workers "who wanted me to undertake the tough task of fulfilling the dreams of the departed leaders".

Asserting that her commitment towards party workers was total, she said she had worked to the best of her ability and capacity to fulfil this task.
