Ambika Soni resigns
as AICC gen secy: PTI

Ambika Soni has resigned as All-India Congress Committee general secretary, to campaign for Sonia Gandhi, who is seeking re-election as Congress president.

Soni, soon after meeting Gandhi, told PTI that her resignation, submitted on Tuesday, was accepted by the party chief on Friday.

"I could not have campaigned for Gandhi as an office-bearer and that was why I decided to quit and work for her victory," Soni said.

She was general secretary in-charge of seven north-eastern states.

Elections for the party president post are scheduled for November 12, in which Gandhi is pitted against senior party leader Jitendra Prasada.
