Security cover not to be restored: Bombay commissioner

E-Mail this report to a friend

Bombay Police commissioner M N Singh on Wednesday said the security cover of several prominent persons, which was reduced to mobilise additional forces for maintaining law and order during the past few days, would not be restored.

Singh said the police force had successfully discharged its responsibility by maintaining peace in the city during the tense run-up to the arrest and subsequent discharge of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray in a case for his alleged role in the 1992-93 communal riots in Bombay.

Expressing satisfaction over the fact that there were no major incidents of violence, he said he was happy that the city had finally been freed of tension.
