Thackeray says he will abide by the law

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, who is facing prosecution in a 1992-93 riots case, said on Saturday that he would abide by the law and "accept whatever the courts say".

Speaking to STAR News, Thackeray said: "There is of course a process by which I can go to the high court and the Supreme Court. I may exercise that option."

The Maharashtra government has sanctioned Thackeray's prosecution in a riots case which pertains to some allegedly inflammatory editorials he wrote in the party daily Saamna at the height of the communal tension in Bombay.

Though three Sena Union ministers recently resigned from the Cabinet in protest against the Centre's inability to stop Thackeray's arrest, the Sena chief said he would do "nothing that would destabilise" the Vajpayee government.

"I have the highest regard for Vajpayeeji and Advaniji, I will do nothing to destabilise their government," he said.

Asked about his warning that Bombay would 'burn' if he was touched, Thackeray said: "I don't want anything to happen that will cause fresh divides in society."
