Centre under pressure from Sena: Bhujbal

E-Mail this report to a friend

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said on Friday that the Centre's decision to turn down the state government's request for additional paramilitary forces was taken under pressure from the Shiv Sena.

"The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance's decision to reject the state government's request for more paramilitary forces has been taken under pressure from its ally," Bhujbal, who also holds the home portfolio, told reporters at Vidhan Bhavan.

This must be the first time in 50 years that any state's request for additional paramilitary forces for maintaining law and order has been turned down, he added.

Ministers of State of Home Kripashankar Singh and Manik Thakre had met Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani in New Delhi on Thursday to seek more forces to keep the peace in view of Sena chief Bal Thackeray's impending arrest.

Bhujbal said the state government had given the go-ahead to the city police to prosecute Thackeray and now it was up to the police to arrest him.
