Thackeray warns of trouble

Reacting to the decision of the Maharashtra government to give permission to prosecute him, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray declared that it would "lead to violence both in the state and the country."

Thackeray said, "The state government, especially deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal, will be wholly responsible for the law and problems."

Claiming that the decision was taken due to Bhujbal's personal animosity, he said, "When our government was in power for five years, we never used it to settle for personal vandetta as Bhujbal is doing now.

Claiming that he was a nationalist, Thackeray said that he was ready to face any prosecution that may be launched against him.

There were already reports of trouble in Sena strongholds of Bombay, Sangli, Pune and Aurangabad.

Meanwhile, Sena leaders met at hurriedly convened meeting at the residence of former chief minister Narayan Rane. The leaders decided to call for a statewide bandh on Sunday.
