Curfew imposed in Ranchi

Our Correspondent in Ranchi

Curfew was imposed in parts of the newly-created capital of Jharkhand state, Ranchi, after mobs pelted stones at police vehicles after Friday prayers. Two policemen were injured in the incident.

Curfew was imposed in Doranda, Ranchi City and Lower Bazaar.

Trouble began at the funeral of four persons, who were killed in police firing on Thursday. As crowds gathered, the situation was tense and people resorted to stone-throwing.

Since morning, most shops and establishments in the city remained closed, anticipating trouble.
