Karnataka worried by delay in Veerappan's response

As anxiety gripped the state administration, Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna said on Wednesday that he had received no information from the Tamil Nadu government on the release of Kannada film icon Rajakumar and three others held hostage by forest bandit Veerappan.

After a meeting with state Home Minister Mallikarjun Kharge and Director General of Police C Dinakar, as the crisis stretched into the eleventh day, Krishna told reporters in Bangalore that he had received no information from Tamil Nadu.

The government is eagerly awaiting a 'good message' on Rajakumar's release, officials said. They seemed worried that even three days after the governments of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka had responded positively to most of Veerappan's demands, the bandit had not spelt out his response.

Meanwhile, a delegation of the Kannada Film Chambers of Commerce called on Krishna and informed him that they would meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Thursday to plead for ensuring Rajakumar's early release.
