Pope meets President, PM

George Iype in New Delhi

Pope John Paul II met President K R Narayanan at the Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

He also met Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Hyderabad House.

The Pope later went to Rajghat, where he placed a wreath on the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. He offered rose petals twice.

The Pope also blessed the samadhi with the sign of the cross. He then stood there for a minute and prayed.
