Helicopter crew's bodies recovered

E-Mail this report to a friend

The bodies of the four crew members of the Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopter that was shot down in the Kargil sector by Pakistani infiltrators on Friday were recovered today.

The remains were sent from Srinagar to the Sarsawa (Uttar Pradesh) air force station where the funeral will take place with full military honours tomorrow morning.

Squadron Leader Rajiv Pundhir, Flight Lieutenant S Muhilan, Sergeant Raj Kishore Sahu and Sergeant P V N R Prasad were killed when an American Stinger missile hit their chopper while it was taking part in the operations against Pakistani infiltrators in the Drass sub-sector.

The site where the Russian-made helicopter crashed had been identified earlier, but it took some time for the ground relief teams to reach the place as the terrain was tough.
