E-Mail this report to a friend

The US has stepped up its diplomatic offensive to defuse the Kargil situation.

Close on the heels of US President Bill Clinton's call to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief urging him to pull out his troops from Indian territory, Washington has rushed General Anthony Zinni, Commander-in-Chief of US Central Command, and Assistant Secretary of State Gibson Lanpher to Islamabad.

The two officials are expected to hold consultations with Pakistani authorities today, according to Star News.
