10 Pak intruders killed in Poonch sector

E-Mail this report to a friend

Army troops foiled a major infiltration bid when they gunned down ten Pakistani intruders in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir late last night. Three jawans lost their lives and eight others were injured in the encounter, defence sources said

They said that army troops guarding the Poonch sector noticed some suspicious movement along the Line of Control (LoC) late last night. On being challenged, the intruders opened heavy fire. The Indian forces retaliated leading to a protracted encounter. At least ten Pakistani intruders were killed on the spot while others managed to flee back to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). Some arms and ammunition were also recovered.

During the encounter Pakistani troops also resorted to unprovoked firing and heavy shelling on Indian positions from across the border, the sources said and added that Indian troops also retaliated. A shell exploded near a bunker killing three jawans and injuring eight others. The injured were airlifted to military hospital where the condition of two jawans was stated to be serious.

It was not immediately known whether Pakistani troops also suffered any casualties or not, the sources added.
