Air strikes continue

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Indian Air Force air strikes against Pakistan-backed infiltrators in the Kargil sector continued for the 10th day today as the army claimed more heights occupied by the intruders.

Athough it was snowing in the upper reaches, the joint operations by the Indian Army and the IAF had resulted in intense pressure being put on the infiltrators.

Fierce fighting was reported in the Batalik sector where the army has already made substantial gains. Pressure was also being put on the infiltrators to vacate posts in Kaksar, Drass and Mushkoh valley.

The army said steady progress was being made in evicting the infiltrators from the ridge lines in Drass. In Mushkoh valley, too, the columns had moved forward considerably.

The Indian troops had been able to block a lot of the supply routes. The troops were reaching some of the heights and in a few days they should be able to block all routes of sustenance of the infiltrators, the army added.
