War widows to be given petrol pumps, LPG connections

E-Mail this report to a friend

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has directed Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister K Ramamurthy to contact the defence ministry to obtain the list of war widows who are to be provided petrol pump and Liquid Petroleum Gas connections.

In a letter addressed to Ramamurthy yesterday and released to the press in New Delhi today, the prime minister said officers of the petroleum ministry and petroleum companies "should contact" the war widows at their residence and see that necessary formalities are completed so that they can be handed over the pumps/agencies at the earliest.

"The entire initiative in doing this should rest with the ministry/public sector units concerned and there should be no question of the applicants having to approach anybody to get their work done," Vajpayee emphasised.

The letter said there has been widespread appreciation of the various welfare measures announced by the government in the context of the Kargil conflict. It asked Ramamurthy to monitor the progress of the implementation on a regular basis.
