Gorkha Rifles, JKLI win citations

The 12th battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry and the 1st battalion of the 11 Gorkha Rifles won unit citations Thursday from Army chief General V P Malik for gallant operations in the Kargil sector.

The J and K infantrymen got the special award for battles on Point 5203 on the night of June 10, 11 and Point 4812 on June 30, July 1.

The Gorkha Rifles was recognised for the victory at Khalubar in Batalik.

Earlier, the 18th battalion of the Garhwal Rifles, the 13th battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, the 108 Medium Regiment, the 18 Grenadiers and the second battalion of the Rajputana Rifles were awarded unit citations.

The army chief had also commended the 27th battalion of the Rajput regiment and the Ladakh Scouts for their outstanding performance in Operation Vijay.
