Kargil is 'threat to internal security': Advani

E-Mail this report to a friend

Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani today said the invasion of Kargil by the Pakistan army regulars was a threat to the internal security of the country.

The documents and arms seized have revealed that the invasion was a threat not only ''to our territory but also to our internal security,'' Advani said in his opening remarks at the chief ministers' meet.

The home minister said Pakistan had been waging a proxy war for years but this was the first time that the Pakistan army regulars were in the forefront.

The chief ministers' meet was convened by the prime minister to discuss the Kargil situation.

The unscheduled meeting was called in view of the unusual situation, Advani said.

He invited the chief ministers to visit Vigyan Bhavan, where the seized arms and documents were on display, to gauge the gravity of the situation in Kargil.
