Bhagwat should have been court-martialled, says Awati

E-Mail this report to a friend

Vice-Admiral (retd) Manohar Prahlad Awati has said that Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat should have been court-martialled and not simply dismissed if the charges of his having endangered national security were true.

"If Bhagwat has caused damage to the navy and to national security in particular by his various actions, then his mere dismissal is not the proper action," he said.

Awati said he had known Bhagwat personally from the time he was a commander and felt he was "a very capable and intelligent person".

"It is unbelievable that Bhagwat could have done any damage to the navy and national security," he said.

"I would like to know, rather I have a right to know, what actions of Bhagwat have damaged the navy and national security," he said.
