Hijack crisis: Cabinet plans action against bureaucrats

E-Mail this report to a friend

Monday's Cabinet meeting to discuss the hijack of Flight 814 today paid homage to former President Shankar Dayal Sharma who passed away on Sunday.

While no details were forthcoming as to the deliberations over the hijack, lest the hijackers be tipped off about the government's hand, reliable sources say the government is planning disciplinary action against some senior civil servants, holding them accountable for the hijack crisis.

The government has also asked for a minute to minute report on the events at Amritsar airport where the Indian Airlines aircraft landed briefly. The released hostages said that Rupin Katyal and Satnam Singh were stabbed by the hijackers at Amritsar when they suspected that something was amiss.
