India to face Kashmir pressure after poll: Pak

E-Mail this report to a friend

Scott McDonald in Karachi

Pakistan Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz has said he expected growing international pressure on New Delhi over the disputed Kashmir region after India holds elections.

''I think they are waiting for the new government. The tempo will build up,'' Aziz said in Karachi.

Aziz also said he was prepared to 'deal with whatever government is elected' in India's parliamentary elections in September and October.

Aziz said Pakistan lost an international publicity war with India over Kargil, but that the tide had now shifted.

''Now we are shifting the focus back to the actual Kashmir situation... The human rights violations, the Indian repression, the denial of democratic rights,'' he said.
