Naxals gun down former AP speaker

E-Mail this report to a friend

Former Andhra Pradesh speaker D Sripada Rao was shot dead by Naxalites of the People's War Group near Annaram village in Karimnagar district this evening.

The police said Rao, a close associate of former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao, was returning in his car after attending the religious rites of a friend who had died recently, and was waylaid by four extremists and shot dead from point-blank range at 1630 hrs.

The police said the Naxals pumped two bullets into him and took to their heels. The district border was sealed and a manhunt for the killers launched.

Sripada Rao was not on the hit-list of the Naxalites and used to move about freely in the area.
