China not to play a role in Kashmir wrangle

China today indicated that it had no role to play in the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

''It is a matter to be resolved by India and Pakistan through talks," Chinese Ambassador to India Zhao Gang said today. He was talking to reporters after a meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balayogi.

He admitted that bilateral relations between India and China had been affected by "some remarks made by someone''. He was clearly referring to the recent statements made by Defence Minister George Fernandes.

Zhao said the dates of the next meeting of the India-China joint working group was yet to be decided.
