Singhal now talks of punishing judiciary for delaying Ram temple verdict

Vishwa Hindu Parishad working president Ashok Singhal today said if the judiciary delays its judgment in the Ayodhya case, it can even be ''punished'' by religious leaders.

Talking to newsmen, Singhal said it was the duty of the judiciary to deliver justice soon. While the Constitution does not have any provision for punishment of the judiciary, he added that religious leaders do.

Singhal said any high court decision should not change the status of the present site at Ayodhya as the birth-place of Ram as it is for this reason that it is held sacred by Hindus.

The VHP leader also said the court's decision can be changed by law and appreciated the Bharatiya Janata Party's view that a law can be enacted with regard to the Ram Janambhoomi, as was done after the Shahbano case.
