AP government renews ban on People's War Group

The Andhra Pradesh government today decided to renew the ban on the militant People's War Group of Naxalites by one more year.

According to official sources in Hyderabad, the decision to renew the ban was taken as it expires on July 22.

The ban was imposed by the Congress government led by N Janardhan Reddy on May 21, 1992, the first death anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi which was observed as Anti-Terrorism Day.
