E-Mail this report to a friend

The cold wave has claimed 50 lives in Uttar Pradesh this season. Three deaths were reported overnight from Faizabad district.

Shahjahanpur was the coldest place in the plains of UP, recording a minimum temperature of three degrees Celsius Tuesday night. The mercury also dipped in Bareilly, Varanasi and Agra divisions.

Gorakhpur, which faced the coldest day of the season Tuesday, had some respite, with the temperatures rising slightly.

The fog meanwhile continued to disrupt rail and road traffic. A man was electrocuted when he walked straight into some electric wires due to near zero visibility in Etawah district.

A report from Allahabad said while the Magadh Express (down) was running 17 hours late, Brahmputra Mail (up), Bundelkhand Kurla Express and Mughal Sarai-Bareilly passenger trains were running 10 to 15 hours late.

A Northern Railway release said eight trains including the Bareilly-Mghalserai passenger (down), Muri Express (down), Marudhar Express (both up and down), Nauchandi Express, Howrah-Delhi (up) and Janata Express (down) and Farakka Express (down) trains had been cancelled due to the thick fog.
