Kishore da still rocks our hearts
Bachna Ae Haseeno is a decent effort from composers capable of a lot more punch -- and surprisingly forgettable stuff considering this is the kind of film relying largely on packaging to pull in audiences.

July 07, 2008
Snoop is Kinng
If you don't like Akshay Kumar or Bhangra, this isn't your album. Then again, let Pritam's songs sink in -- it's his best work in a while (with no words on 'alternate sources' yet) and some of you might be converts.

This Love Story is boring!
Harman Baweja's debut film Love Story 2050 is predictable, boring and a terrible waste of time. Avoid at all costs.

What would you do if I sang out of tune?
Jaane Tu is a refreshing, delightful film about youth and friendship. Imran Khan shows great potential while his heroine Genelia steals the show. A very fun and enjoyable watch, with much to laugh about.

Imran excels in Jaane Tu
Director Abbas Tyrewala and producer Aamir Khan have a fantastic product in their hands. The film will definitely appeal to the youth.

Duplicate dud
Love Story 2050 is a complete failure, a badly written attempt at sci-fi starring a Hrithik-lookalike and Priyanka Chopra in one of the worst performances of her career. And it's more than 3 hours long! Stay away!

Grab just a handful of Kismat
Don't buy this album. Try and get hold of Aai Paapi and Bakhudi Tumhi Ho, and -- if willing to deal with a nasal Nigam -- Soniye Ve; that stuff is fun, but the rest is remixed pap.

No Magic in Thodi Life
Anand Rai's Thodi Life Thoda Magic leaves many questions unanswered. It's a task to understand the vague series of events and the film's deadening pace makes it worse.

No Magic in Thodi Life
Anand Rai's Thodi Life Thoda Magic leaves many questions unanswered. It's a task to understand the vague series of events and the film's deadening pace makes it worse.

Thoda so-so Thoda ho-hum
Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic is a very predictable kids film borrowing from most children's films you can think of. The kids are okay, but Rani and Saif are disappointing.

A half-decent Darjeeling diversion
On paper, the Via Darjeeling guys had a pretty neat idea. Literature and cinema have played with the idea of the unreliable narrator for ages, fooling us and then making us applaud how well we've been fooled. Yet the script, despite its footloose ambition, is eventually as half-baked as the characters.

Rabbi's rock star ambition
In 2003, a guitar-playing Sardar sang his way into the nation's charts and hearts with an unlikely mix of rock music and Punjabi lyrics. Rabbi Shergill was then a breath of fresh air.

June 24, 2008
Not Ugly, but needs more Pagli
Anu Malik has tried hard to go 'modern' with this album, clearly picking up on current market trends and trying to incorporate -- and replicate -- them to come up with something peppy and fun, but there isn't a single truly fun track on this album, and it's hard to imagine it catching on.

June 20, 2008
Give Haal-E-Dil a miss
Haal-E-Dil doesn't impress. Average performances, bad music and terrible director make this film a disaster.

Sanai Chaughde fails to impress
A Marathi film produced by Shreya Talpade, Subhash Ghai and directed by Rajiv Patel, Sanai Chaughde, talks about arranged marraige system and what today's youth thinks about it.

De Taali deserves its taalis
De Taali has great performances from Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani, Ayesha Takia and Rimi Sen, and some great direction from E Niwas.

Love Guru : Moronic humour
The film is flat, and it does no justice to its lead actor Mike Myers' reputation of a terrific entertainer.

Smart and Funny
This is a movie you watch for the actors and their humorous interplay and if the jokes work for you, this is the type of movie you exit the multiplex murmuring 'great timepass' to whoever watched the film with you.

Dr Jekyll And Mr Hulk
The Incredible Hulk is a perfectly watchable and forgettable masala movie. Tim Roth is awesome and this is one predictably silly comicbook movie that entertains well enough if you don't think too much about it.

June 13, 2008
Summer 2007 has shades of Rang De Basanti
If you liked Rang De Basanti, there's a chance you may like Summer 2007. The film does not pack in patriotism, nor does it boast of stars. But it has a touch of humanity, and a noble story.

Baap re baap !
The film starts off like a B-grade version of Basu Chatterjee's Shaukeen, changes into a crazy game of Chinese Whispers, develops into a feel-good tale of a father-son and his fun-loving girlfriend, detours to do some heavy-duty Kerala tourism only to drastically meander into a old-fashioned social melodrama followed by a proverbial 'kahani mein twist'.

June 12, 2008
The Happening will freak you out!
Shyamalan's new film is very well done. Mark Wahlberg excels, the film's pace holds, and it's very scary.

June 09, 2008
10 Ka Dum : Salman's promising first steps
If you are a die-hard Salman Khan fan, 10 Ka Dum is a God-sent opportunity to hang out with the star every weekend. If not, you are better off guessing the percentage of people (like yourself) who will not watch the show.

June 06, 2008
Sarkaricature Raj
Ramu has concentrated far too much on the angles and the light -- both of which succeed only in making you think you're watching a film without clarity -- and not enough on the focus.

Hum Sey Hai Jahan is bad
Wonder what director Kamaal Amrohi was thinking while he made Hum Se Hey Jahan. Only he knows. Launching his grandson, Mashoor Amrohi, with this film is surely a desicion gone wrong. Was the film was made to be a spoof of other stereotypical commercial films or was it made to be a complete nonsensical comedy? Either ways Hum Se Hey Jahan is bad.

June 05, 2008
Why we should applaud Aamir
The director, the music director, the cinematographer, and the leading man reinstates faith in cinema itself.

June 02, 2008
Love Story 2050 's music is average
Soft love ballads or playful ditties have always been Anu Malik's forte. But a sci-fi flick like Love Story 2050 asks for something radically innovative and decidedly eccentric, which the music director fails to deliver.

Too much Govinda in Sarkar Raj
Even if you close your eyes and try to picture the almighty Amitabh Bachchan doing his thing against the soundtrack, this really is Govinda-overdose like never before.

May 30, 2008
Hastey Hastey has no laughs
Hastey Hastey, aptly titled, is another comedy to tickle your funny bone. Unfortunately, it really doesn't.

Dasavathaaram , now on June 13
"It is because of the delay in making 1,000 prints," says 'Oscar' Ravichandran, the film's producer. "The lab can print only 45 prints a day, and we need more than 1,000 prints."

Sikander does well in Woodstock Villa
Sikander Kher's acting debut, Woodstock Villa, is quite a compelling film about changing morals in today's world.

Just Jonesing for childhood
Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull is in that ludicrous, over-the-top Indy style, and all the stuff you need is intact. The film isn't a good movie, but it's fun as hell.

May 29, 2008
Mere Baap Pehle Aap music is lousy
Unlike Priyan's previous fun-loving outings, which boasted of catchy ditties, the soundtrack of Mere Baap Pehle Aap by Vidyasagar, is nothing to write home about.

May 26, 2008
Thoda mast, thoda tragic
The music of Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic starts of magically enough. But two-three compositions later, it runs out on its supply of pixie dust. And so it's 2 and a half stars only.

May 23, 2008
Ghatothkach is a good watch
While the Mahabharatha is of epic proportions and reputation, it contains hundreds of characters and sub-plots that are capable of being re-written on epic scales.

Dhoom Dadakka : Just a few laugh gags
This comedy starring Anupam Kher, Gulshan Grover, Satish Kaushik and Satish Shah is not for all. First half is funny, but second half is disappointing.

Ghatothkach : An endearing watch
It's gladdening to see an animation in Ghatothkach's honour -- a not-too-often-mentioned personality who went against his rakhsas nature epitomising heroic virtue and scrupulous devotion.

May 22, 2008
Jaane Tu music is young and peppy
Four summers ago when I spoke to Abbas Tyrewala -- the prolific writer of Munnabhai MBBS, Maqbool and Main Hoon Na, he appeared rather reluctant to direct a movie.

May 19, 2008
Marathi cinema gets its own Little Miss Sunshine
Hollywood's brilliant 2006 film, Little Miss Sunshine, seems to have inspired Mahesh Manjrekar's latest Marathi film, De Dhakka.

May 16, 2008
Emraan Hashmi makes Jannat work
Jannat all comes down to the romance. It's the kind of simplistic storyline that could have been wrapped up in half the time.

Sakhi : Good one-time watch
Though it has a story by Ace Photographer Gautam Rajadhyksha and Yogesh Khadikar, a reputed director like Sanjay Surkar at the helms and backing of Producers like Lata Narvekar and Bharati Aachrekar, Sakhi fails to explore fully the emotional drama expected in the movie if u go by the name and meaning of it.

This Narnia is worth a visit
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, the second film in the series, after the immensely successful first installment The Lion, the Witch and the Wardobe, continues its tradition of dramatically adapting and ingeniously altering from C S Lewis' Narnian saga. Only this time, grit and combat take precedence over emotion and enchantment.

May 09, 2008
Jimmy is a disaster
In this day and age when debutants are well-groomed, trained in action, dance, and most importantly, dialogue, diction and acting, it's shocking that Mimoh Chakraborty looks so terribly unprepared.

Bhoothnath cries too much
In sum, Bhoothnath is more than a bit of a drag, despite the lead players trying hard to make it stick. The rest are just okay: Satish Shah makes white-bread sandwiches look yummy, Rajpal Yadav appears to be playing himself, a simpering Shah Rukh Khan looks like he's just bid Knight Riders players Brandon McCullum and Ricky Ponting goodbye, but it is Juhi Chawla whose performance ends up as the most laboured.

Speed Racer : Go Speed Go
If you have kids, or can manage to feel as awestruck as one, this film, starring Emile Hirsch, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Christina Ricci and directed by Andy & Larry Wachowski, is for you.

May 02, 2008
For Arshad Warsi fans only
After his daring and successful attempt with Julie, director Deepak Shivdasani makes a comeback after four years with Mr White And Mr Black, starring Arshad Warsi and Suniel Shetty.

Stay away from Anamika
Anamika borrows heavy inspiration from Daphne du Maurier's novel, Rebecca, which was brilliantly adapted into a Oscar-winning mystery by Alfred Hitchcock and hauntingly interpreted under Biren Nag's direction in the Waheeda Rehman-Biswajeet B/W classic, Kohra.

Forbidden Kingdom packs in great action
The Forbidden Kingdom is true to sub headline that says - the battle of eternity is the fantasy of a lifetime. The film can be perceived in two ways – either as a fantasy or as a reality.

Tuzya Mazyat could have been better
Sachin Khedekar's new Marathi film, Tuzya Mazyat, doesn't quite follow the usual storytelling method. And this is one of the main reasons why it has failed to create an impact.

Go watch Iron Man
Check into your neighbourhood multiplex and watch the first offering from this year's American 'summer season.' If Iron Man is a hint of things to come, beating the summer heat might not be so tiresome after all.

April 28, 2008
SRK's classroom is fun!
The concept is super. The questions truly excite. And the program does qualify to educate. It's a great interactive experience -- for kids and adults alike. But quizzing alone doesn't make a show a hit. What Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain needs to work on is its wit, spontaneity and reality while blending enlightenment with entertainment.

April 25, 2008
The Tashan The Timepass
As said, Tashan works in fits and starts. There are some genuinely creative moments, a few fantastic lines of dialogue, and some shots that make you go wow. And while the film starts off blissfully cheeky, it gets more and more serious as it goes along, suddenly mistaking itself for a ridiculous action film.

Tashan is a stylish spectacle
Tashan is a lavishly-told fairy tale of three con-men, which emphasises on swagger not purpose and settles for style over substance. But if you aren't looking for the latter, Tashan is all-revelry.

April 18, 2008
Marathi Satte Pe Satta disappoints
Actor-filmmaker Sachin directs his new Marathi film Amhi Satpute. It is said that Amhi Satpute is inspired from the 1982, Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini starrer Satte Pe Satta. Sachin played the role of Big B's youngest brother in Satte Pe Satta, whereas in the new film, he plays the eldest of the Satpute clan.

A well-intentioned drama
Tanuja Chandra's English film, with some Punjabi, echoes the irony and aftermath behind/of unfair prejudices as well the importance of letting go.

April 14, 2008
Bhootnath offers dull music
Ravi Chopra's new film, Bhootnath, also, revolves around a pint-sized brat and his unlikely friendship with a grubby ghost, Bhootnath. The peppy duo of Vishal-Shekhar score the soundtrack against Javed Akhtar's competent lyrics. Alas, the composers fail to pass on their brand of enthusiasm on its music.

April 11, 2008
It rhymes with Lazy Bore
You can watch the film without cringing, and indulgently smile at where what is going wrong and, figuring out how the real joke might have sounded as intended, chuckle a bit. And honestly, this isn't a film we're trying to make sense of, or nitpicking about plot detail: make it loony, for god's sake, go wild but try and make it funny, instead of hoping Irrfan's and Rajpal's faces do the trick.

Ajay Devgan does well in U Me Aur Hum
Devgan decidedly has some way to go as a director, especially visually. There is no consistency to the basic style of the film as split-screens and transitions happen at will, as do suddenly stylised establishing shots. Yet look at the content: this is a sensitively handled film, using actors with well-herded restraint. And if a director can make you tear up with this much sincerity, he must be on the right track.

April 04, 2008
Plenty of steamy scenes and sexy girls in Bhram
After the thriller Race, comes another suspense film, Bhram. Only this film does not brag of a stellar cast like Race. Despite that, Bhram holds its own. Bhram is Pawan Kaul's second directorial venture after his first thriller, Sssshh..., and stars Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Sheetal Menon and Simone Singh.

Khuda Ke Liye : Bold and worth a watch
Khuda Ke Liye is a film with a serious subject, and worth a watch, especially if you are interested in what Islam has to say on various issues. If not, stay away. The film deserves three stars mostly because it tackles a bold and controversial theme that attacks Islamic fundametalism in a subtle way, and that too, in Pakistan.

A Few Hindoo'd Men
Rob Reiner's superbly written A Few Good Men gets a Bollywood treatment. That is what Samar Khan's Shaurya -- a watered-down, over-dramatised version of Reiner's 1992 film is all about.

April 02, 2008
Tashan 's music is fashionably showy
Going with the screwball theme of Tashan, musical duo Vishal-Shekhar generate an album that is fashionably showy and meticulously over-the-top. Either you will hate its guts. Or love it for the same.

March 28, 2008
Once, Twice, Three times a dud
Ashwini Dheer and his gang decided to play the old mistaken-identity game, and placed three diverse characters together in the same hotel and waited for obvious chaos to ensue. Unfortunately, beyond a weak two-para summation of the premise, not much else seems to have been written -- which is why the pained gags set up in the first few scenes by narrator Irrfan Khan continue to play out, again and again, right to the very climax.

Love Songs is a pleasant watch
The pace is slow but the brilliant performances by the lead cast makes up for it. Shahana Chatterjee and Jaya Bachchan deserve special mention. The only exception is Mallika Sarabhai, whose loud performance is unimpressive. The film's music is average, which is a shame since music is an important aspect of the story -- Shahana plays a club singer. Besides, Usha Uthup's powerful voice doesn't match Shahana's fragile frame.

March 21, 2008
Too many twists spoil this Race
Watch it if you must; it's not objectionably bad. But there really is nothing at all good about this Race either. Heck, even the horses seem sleepy.

March 07, 2008
Black & White is a relevant watch
This is a film of urgency, make no mistake, and both protagonist and screenplay talk only as much as is required. As for the director himself, he doesn't even make the obligatory cameo. It is the sentiment that plays hero.

March 06, 2008
Krazzy 4 music is a drag
While the promos featuring a snazzy SRK sure look impressive, the music isn't exactly in the catchy league of Roshan's work in earlier films like Khudgarz, Kishen Kanhaiya, Karan Arjun, Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai or Koi...Mil Gaya.

February 18, 2008
U Me Aur Hum will make you smile
Vishal Bhardwaj comes up with a modest, lovely soundtrack for Ajay Devgan's directorial debut.

February 14, 2008
Jodhaa Akbar is okay, but overlong
Ashutosh Gowariker's new film has a nice romance, but the history seems to get in the way.

Jodhaa Akbar is a spectacular watch
With an appealing story of two unlikely people falling in love after their politically arranged marriage, the film is filled with several intriguing plots and out-of-the-world songs.

February 08, 2008
Superstar is an average film
Kunal Khemu is the only highlight of Rohit Jugraj's new film.

Mithya works
Mithya is an unpredictable ride, a rare film that authentically extracts most of its pleasure from all that you don't know just yet.

February 07, 2008
Race has rocking music
Two rocking numbers, four run-of-the-mill songs and a whole bunch of eclectic remixes is the best Race has to offer.

February 01, 2008
Rama Rama is one lousy film
Rama Rama Kya Hai Drama gives us a shameful version of marital dilemmas with zilch support from the story department. All we get is some bad marital advice from Rajpal Yadav.

American Gangster , a fun watch
Thematically, it is a very interesting conflict: a gangster villain who works in a scrupulously ethical manner, contrasted opposite a staunchly idealistic cop who just happens to be a womaniser with a failed-marriage behind him.

January 25, 2008
Rambo -kanth is getting old
Rambo is invincible, sure. The film, however, is not.

Sunday has comedy but no thrills
Contrary to Rohit Shetty's hit comedy, Golmaal which was consistently funny, Sunday entertains as long as it tries to be funny but isn't sly enough to find a mention in the archive of whodunits.

Black & White : A forgettable album
Overall Black & White works forgettably, like the just-mentioned Jagjit Singh song: it makes you seek succour in Karz or Taal.

January 22, 2008
Jodhaa Akbar's music: A musical conquest
Jodhaa Akbar deserves a round of applause for its faithful adherence to melody, vibrant lyrics and musical detailing.

January 18, 2008
Truly, a Magical Mystery Tour
This musical traipses through the Beatles songbook and finds blissful innocence.

Nagesh Kukunoor disappoints in Bombay To Bangkok
Shreyas Talpade's new film is boring, with low production values, and an uninteresting view of Thailand.

Chipmunk Power
Alvin And The Chipmunks is a fun addition to the canon of festive season movies Hollywood does so well.

January 15, 2008
Vaana : Washed away by the rain
Vaana can be watched for the technical aspects. As a love story, it seems to be washed away by the rain!

January 11, 2008
Anthony is total timepass
Director E Niwas's film has the simplicity and comedy of Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, as well as cool chase scenes we saw in Ram Gopal Varma's Satya.

Santoshi's back with Halla Bol
Raj Kumar Santoshi is back in hard-hitting form with his latest film.

New Treasure , less fun
National Treasure: Book Of Secrets plays out like a repeat ride on an exciting rollercoaster. It is still fun the second time around but with nowhere near the excitement and mystery that accompany a 'first time'.

Cronenberg astonishes with Eastern Promises
Eastern Promises, David Cronenberg's latest film, depending on which way you look at it, is either a horrifyingly cool exposition of the uncaring value system in a modern day mafia family or a devastating thriller with internalised ramifications for all us 'ordinary' people.

December 31, 2007
This Sunday is not as exciting
The music for Rohit Shetty's new film is insipid.

December 28, 2007
Hanuman: Animated homage to OSO ?
While adults may question director Anurag Kashyap's take on mythology or disapprove of Gods conversing in Hinglish, kids might find the action entertaining.

December 21, 2007
Welcome packs in a lot of masala
The extraordinary camaraderie between the actors, completely consumed by the foolhardiness that surrounds them, that tickles the bone. And hard.

Watch Bee Movie!
In these dying days of another year, when a lot of the hard work has been done, this might be just the sort of pressure-free entertainment that could be good for you.

Aamir's Taare is a nice watch
Taare Zameen Par is an impressive debut indeed for filmmaker Aamir Khan, and showcases a brilliant performance by the young Darsheel Safary.

December 14, 2007
Strangers achieves a rare feat
Watch Strangers to relish the independent update on a revered classic.

Enter 1408 at your own peril
Finally, a solid horror film from the US. John Cusack is in very taut form, playing the role in just the right key, and he makes the film work.

I Am Legend is believable
Will Smith's next film feels familiar, as the message of man messing with nature without fully considering the implications inherent in that messing about is a resonant one.

December 07, 2007
Kalloori is realistic
Kalloori is an extremely candid look at life in a campus -- realistic, interesting and at the same time touching.

Some decent Kahaaniyan
More often than not, Sanjay Gupta and his team of directors, make this collection work.

Nice one, Sudhir bhai Mishra
Khoya Khoya Chand does its best to transport you to the golden era of Bollywood, among archaic lights, melodramatic sets, divas and classic automobiles.

Hitman : Watch it if you're bored
If you're looking for thrills, chills and spills, this is not the place for you. You would be better served by renting a Bourne flick or even a Michael Bay one on DVD.

November 30, 2007
Madhuri shines in a nice, boring film
Aaja Nachle is a warm, well-intentioned and competently acted happy extravaganza - except, it fails to engage.

November 28, 2007
There's nothing to rave about Welcome's music
Pity, considering, not one but three music directors -- Sajid Wajid, Anand Raj Anand and Himesh Reshammiya -- share the credits behind the score.

November 23, 2007
Beowulf : Spectacular animation
Beowulf is not meant for kids. But it's a film watch the watch.

Iss Goal ko chuck de
John Abraham's football film is a tremendous disappointment. Goal is a complete drag, and a case in point against thoughtless derivative sports films.

November 13, 2007
Five reasons to watch (or not) Saawariya
Five reasons to watch the film. And another five not to.

November 09, 2007
'Om Sweet 'Om
Farah Khan's latest film is heavily flawed but still fun.

Om Shanti Om scores and how!
For all the grand entertainment it offers, Om Shanti Om is also a zany study of the 70s film making in terms of style, attitude and values.

SRK's abs win over Ranbir's derriere
Farah Khan's and Shah Rukh's second collaboration following Main Hoon Na, is a gloriously entertaining film from the word go.

Terribly boring!
A film that purports to be a love story is in deep trouble if its lead characters do not connect and are not believable. And that is biggest flaw of Saawariya.

November 08, 2007
Oh, how Sanjay Bhansali hams!
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya is a wasted over-the-top effort.

November 06, 2007
Buy Khoya Khoya for the title song
Sudhir Mishra's Khoya Khoya Chand soundtrack evokes warm feelings of nostalgia.

November 05, 2007
Taare Zameen Par : Songs of innocence
Taare Zameen Par isn't your regular soundtrack about fluttering hearts and sleepless nights. What makes these delicate and whimsical creations special is their underlying innocence.

October 29, 2007
Bal Ganesh is worth a watch
The animated characters of Lord Ganesha and Mooshak are consistently endearing throughout the film as they go around performing their naughty antics.

October 26, 2007
What was the director smoking?
Anurag Kashyap's No Smoking does not make any sense. This is self-indulgent filmmaking, and totally ignores the sort of audience that may end up watching it.

A Mighty Heart : Disturbing heartache
The movie is presented primarily from Pearl's widows point-of-view, which means the picture's fortunes rise or fall with the performance of Angelina Jolie, and it's amazing how she does super justice to a woman's pain that is difficult to grasp.

A gun toting barrel of fun
Shoot 'Em Up has no back-story. Instead, what it has is lame-brain wit, wooden acting, regular directing and a loud soundtrack. But it's still awesome!

Jab We Met is a cute love story
The Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur starrer is a fun and entertaining watch despite some illogic moments. The two lead pair have acted well.

October 19, 2007
Aaja Nachle 's music should've been better
The verdict on Aaja Nachle is uncomplicated. When someone as special as Madhuri Dixit makes a comeback, you expect nothing short of extraordinary. The soundtrack of Yash Raj's latest musical is fairly decent. Still, extraordinary, it's not.

Rogue Assassin has forced action
Rogue Assassin is forced, flabby and formulaic. This isn't a martial arts movie. They just don't make them anymore. Rogue Assasin is the new age urban-action/martial-arts hybrid.

Speed : Total ripoff of Cellular
Zayed-Urmila's new film is a frame to frame copy of the Hollywood film, Cellular. Only, this one is much, much worse.

The fall of a franchise
There are no jokes, there are no laughs, even the toilet humour stinks and there's barely even a plot. The movie doesn't just rehash every overused, college comedy cliché it takes them and demotes the nonsense to new levels of absurdity.

Rendition : One of the best 9/11 films
Despite being a bit contrived, Rendition, based on an original and tightly drawn screenplay by Kelley Sane, is a poignant, heartwarming and timely film connected to 9/11.

October 12, 2007
Laaga Chunari Se Bhaag
Laaga Chunari Mein Daag takes us back to a kind of cinema we thought we were done with. Indian cinema threw off the dupatta just a little while ago; let's not shackle it back down.

Too much of history, too little drama
What we get to see in Shekhar Kapur's Elizabeth: The Golden Age is too much of history, too much of music, too many costumes but little drama that pulls at one's heart.

Forget this Bull Bulaiyaa
Priyadarshan's new film, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, is not even a patch on the original Malayalam hit, Manichitrathazhu. Avoid at all costs.

October 05, 2007
Bad News !
One can't help but feel that Breaking News is stage bound and lacks certainty, and doesn't make plausible points in its exaggeratedly loud cynical outbursts.

A waste of Cage, Moore
Overall, though, Next makes a hash of the original material, to no discernible purpose. And in the process, it wastes two high-quality talents (Julianne Moore and Nicholas Cage).

Don't Go for this one
Weak story line, wooden acting and tasteless songs make Go a no show. Another flop show from Ram Gopal Varma.

October 01, 2007
That four letter word -- Yawn
That Four Letter Word feels like a home video experiment by independent filmmaker Sudhish Kamath reminiscent of Hyderabad Blues, except that it isn't even mildly entertaining.

September 28, 2007
Dil Dosti : Brainless college flick
Boys will be boys. Put then in a boys' hostel and you've got endless stories on monkey business, ragging, sexual conquests, addictions, politics in love and love in politics.

Johny Mera Naam remixed
Johnny Gaddaar isn't exactly what you could call a 'great' movie. It's overwritten and over directed for most parts. And yet, against the odds, it works in its own quirky way.

September 27, 2007
Kareena-Shahid's beautiful love tunes
The music of Kareena-Shahid starrer Jab We Met starts run-of-the-mill but presents a lot of surprises along the way. Pritam's music is worth a listen.

September 24, 2007
Saawariya soundtrack, a superior product
Saawariya starts off superbly, showcasing the ethereal texture of its strain. Sadly, somewhere towards the end it loses some of its steam. In entirety, however, the soundtrack is a superior product.

September 21, 2007
Eastern Promises , Oscar potential
The maker of hits like Dead Ringers and Crash is back with Eastern Promises, an excruciatingly violent and engagingly tender film about the bottomless cruelty we humans are capable of.

Loins Of Punjab is hilarious
Loins Of Punjab has great performances and characters, and tries to show the politics of reality shows.

Manorama: A well-executed thriller
Debutant director Navdeep Singh takes the tribute route by basing his first film completely on Roman Polanski's 1974 classic, Chinatown, screenplay by Robert Towne.

An Enjoyable Ultimatum
Bourne is back and better than ever. Check it out and give thanks that a muscular thriller can still come out of Hollywood.

Dhol : Old wine in a new bottle
Dhol is predictable of Priyadarshan films. The film lacks originality and is funny only in parts. Music by Pritam too is impressinve.

September 19, 2007
Cool retro music in Om Shanti Om
Om Shanti Om is an out and out musical that captivates with its roaring polyphony and unabashed drama.

September 14, 2007
Nanhe Jaisalmer is charming
Sameer Karnik's new film might not be a big bait at the box office. Then again, its true credibility lies in its purpose not profit. But Bobby Deol doesn't hold a candle to the talented lad in the film.

Aggar : Good performances, great plot
A good story and great performances make this an engrossing film to watch.

Great topic, poor execution
Death Of A President could have been better, had it paid more attention to detail.
