Oram Po waiting in the wings

Oram Po in Tamil means 'Move out of the way'. Perhaps this is what the auto drivers of the film want to say in the film.

There are many films made in Tamil with the auto driver as the protagonist, but the husband and wife team of Pushkar and Gayathri want to tell the fun and action side of their lives through their film.

"It is a funky, light hearted action comedy and will entertain all those who watch the film," is their promise. "We feel the people of Chennai have a very sarcastic attitude to life and we have incorporated this in the dialogues as well," they added.

The protagonist Chandru, played by Arya, is an auto racer, a kind of wastrel who doesn't care about anything in life. Arya was the perfect choice, the filmmakers felt, because "he has a rare kind of casualness about him."

Another thing that is quite new to Tamil cinema is drag racing. Not many in Chennai are aware of such races that take place on the highways outside Chennai in the early mornings. And this is what makes the film unique. The auto race at the end of the film is the high point of the film, where autos are seen racing at 100 km per hour!

Neerav Shah (an old friend of the couple), who cranked the camera for Dhoom 2, is the cinematographer.

Talking about movie making process, the duo said, "Unlike others who wait seven to eight years to make their debut film, it has been quite easy for us. Once the story was done, everything else fell into place. We showed the script to Arya, and he was impressed. Once we got a big hero, there was no problem getting a producer," the filmmakers added.

However, the only stumbling block is the release date. Initially set to hit the theatres in February, the film is now looking for a late May release.
