Which Indian film should go to the Oscars?

It's that time of year again. With just a couple of months to go before 2007, we're nearing the deadline for sending in our official Oscar entry.

Ever since Lagaan [ Images ] made it to the final nominations at the Academy Awards a couple of years ago, we seem to be focussing on slick, big Bollywood productions in an attempt to entice the West. Last year, amid much controversy, Paheli [ Images ] was picked over Black.

This year, fans and critics are up in arms again. Three big nominees appear to be standing leagues ahead of the pack: Rang De Basanti, Lage Raho Munnabhai and Omkara.

They are three very different films, of varied style and content, but each has been groundbreaking in a year of superhits.
