Yet another film trying to jump onto the comedy bandwagon, Mera Dil Leke Dekho, produced by Shatrughan Sinha and directed by debutant Rohit Kaushik, lacks a basic sense of humour.

The Jackie Shroff-Archana Puran Singh starrer tries to tickle the funny bone, but fails, just like Jatin-Lalit's music. The film revolves around London-born Punjabi Koel Purie, whose only aim in life is to marry the next available man. When Puneet Tejwani flirts with her, she immediately imagines him as her husband, complete with wedding attire. Not just that, she Archana believes her son and husband are having an affair with her son's friend, Joy (Karan Kapoor). For seven days, while comes all the way from London to marry him just because he once said he loved her.

Puneet is excited about her one-week holiday with him and breaks into a jig. But his dreams turn into a nightmare when he finds out about her plans to stay at his house, convince his parents and then marry him. How he tries to shoo her off is supposed to be hilarious, but simply bogs the story down. He hides her at his house for a week without his parents, Jackie and Archana, finding out. Purie doesn't slip into the loud Punjabi image easily, and the effort to mouth her dialogues is quite evident. Puneet's mother is an Art Of Living follower, and her taking deep breaths in order to maintain her cool lead to rare moments that actually make you laugh.

Jackie Shroff is depicted as a womaniser. The film takes a dig at bisexuals and homosexuals, but in extremely bad taste. Koel hides, there is complete chaos. Everybody thinks everyone else is having an affair with someone. There's so much confusion that one wonders if the director and writer even had a script to begin with.

When Puneet makes it clear he can't marry Koel, she shifts her attention to his gay friend and starts dreaming about him. Two and a half hours later, her story reaches an anti-climax. Does she finally get a guy? Don't bother trying to find out.
