For Veteran Hindi film actor Shashi Kapoor, who inaugurated the 37th International Film Festival of India at Goa, the fact that his late father Prithviraj Kapoor is remembered through a retrospective is the happiest moment.
"My father has done so much for the development of Indian cinema and the theatre," Kapoor said. "He fully deserves a tribute and the fact that one of his best films, Mughal-E-Azam was screened here is a big compliment to the Kapoors as it is one of the best films in Indian cinema. With the fourth generation of Kapoors working for the Indian films, it is natural for an international film festival to remember veterans like my father and Sachin Dev Burman."
Shashi Kapoor who spoke to this correspondent after the screening of the Italian film When Do The Girls Show Up? on Sunday, said he has seen four international films so far, at the festival, all of which have impressed him for various reasons.
"I have liked the background score of this Italian film. The emotional content in the French Jerusalem appealed to me. I also saw and liked a Chinese and an Iranian film immensely. I am now going to Delhi, after which I am returning to Goa in a few days to watch some more movies."
Speaking on current Bollywood standards, Kapoor said he felt Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the best director among the present lot, and many people who are enjoying great fanfare recently are yet to reach the standards set by Bhansali.
