'I thought I would look like an idiot'

July 25, 2006
I don't think the National Award was a turning point in my career. I wasn't even in India at the time; I was in London on holiday. My mother called and asked me to attend the function. I am not in this field for awards. I really enjoy my work and go home to be with people I like being with. I also have great friends in the industry, and celebrate with them too once in a while.

In terms of money, I have raised my price, but that has nothing to do with getting an award. It is just based on my box office success. I know my contribution to a role. Earlier, I couldn't talk money. It still makes me uncomfortable, but the amount of responsibility we actors carry deserves a price. Money is not an issue when it comes to film. I would do advertisements for money.

For me, success is being peaceful in the knowledge of what you have achieved. It is a mixture of respect and satisfaction. I have just begun to enjoy and understand it a little more.
