Ritesh DeshmukhWith Masti, Indian cinema was introduced to the juvenile innuendoes of naughty young comedies, something America's seen a lot of, with films like American Pie.

Now, Masti-hero Ritesh Deshmukh admits his upcoming Kya Kool Hai Hum is a comedy on similar lines, but he isn't worrying about being typecast. And he loves shopping for shoes and clothes.

Excerpts from a conversation with Entertainment Correspondent Raja Sen:

Kya Kool Hai Hum is basically a naughty comedy. It's meant for young people, or actually, people wanting something with a young flavour to it. It's slightly naughty comedy, with double meaning to it.

Kaal enjoys box office dhamaal!

Like whenever you get an SMS joke on your mobile phone, the only ones you actually laugh at and send to your friends are the naughty ones, the ones that have some innuendo. Double meaning just makes a joke slightly funnier. So that's the kind of comedy this film is.

The film is about two guys, Rahul, Tusshar's (Kapoor) character, and Karan, played by me. Rahul's a sincere, nice guy, while Karan is looking for all the extras in life. He thinks he's cool and is always in control of the situation, and he has an answer for everything. He always comes up with a solution. And he wants a lot of women! (Laughs).

It's totally different from my geeky role in Masti. The humour in Kya Kool is very situational. Masti was about married couples, but this (film) is about two young guys and how they just 'want' more of everything!

Kya Kool Hai HumI've played some different characters, but I'd personally like to believe that I'm like Karan. He's quite cool and confident, and has a lot of self-belief. And he has fun in life. I like that about him.

In Naach, I played a sensible, open-minded, and mature character. Ram Gopal Varma is such a great director that he made my performance special. I didn't think I was capable of that role, but he extracted it from me. My character was someone I respected a lot, but am I really like that? (Laughs) Maybe when I'm older.

So for now, it's Karan. The characters are exaggerated, but that has to be so for a film. The plot starts with these two guys, but it's not a film just about them. All the other characters are really important.

And they're all really funny! I've had a blast working in this film.

Kya Kool Hai HumTusshar is a superb actor. He's a slightly reserved guy, but he opens up slowly, as you get to know him. I think it's evident when people watch the film, because a talented actor makes other actors near him look good. And we're looking good. But I'm not a very good actor!

Neha (Dhupia) is a very talented actress. She has lovely facial expressions, and it was a lot of fun working with her.

Overall, Kya Kool Hai Hum should be watched for its humour, and nothing else! It's a complete entertainer, and while it may not exactly be a 'family' film (laughs), it'll sure make a lot of people laugh.

So yes, in that sense it is like Masti, but I'm playing a totally different character. So I don't have any worries about being typecast. I have lots of different kinds of projects coming up.

There's Sohail Khan's Fight Club, which is where a bunch of young people make this arena to fight. And no, it isn't at all similar to Fight Club (the 1999 film directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton). This was a great project because there was a lot of bonding with boys!

Ritesh DeshmukhThen there's Mr Ya Miss, the Ram Gopal Varma production that Antara Mali is scripting. That is another comedy, but my role in that is of a straightforward person. And I'm doing a film with Priyadarshanji, which is again a light film.

I like watching all kinds of films. I have a fascination for morbid films in particular. I love films like City Of God and Memento. Basically, I really like watching different films. My taste in movies doesn't usually appeal to everybody. Among Hindi films, I liked Black. I loved Kal Ho Naa Ho, Swades, and Maqbool.

I'm lucky because the industry's really been more than nice to me. I'm working with some great filmmakers, and this is incredible, because these are people I've looked up to all my life.

My family likes me, so they're forced into liking my films (Laughs).
