Actor-cum-film writer Mohan features in an action role in Surya's Kannada film, Ugra Narasimha. Surya has done films like Durga Shakthi, Neelaambari and Fifty Fifty. Though none of his films have been successful, the director enjoys a level of respect from artistes and technicians because his films have been technically sound. His emphases on graphics and sound have been much appreciated in the trade, though the audience have not found these elements absorbing.
Ugra Narasimha presents Mohan as an angry young man who fights for justice, despite losing his family. Mohan, who usually appears in comic roles, has attained a certain level of success. But he did action sequences quite well in his last film, Shuklam Bharadaram.
It seems that Surya wanted to capitalise on that.
But Ugra Narasimha is patchy and inconsistent. It has an uninteresting storyline, though certain dialogues are good. The song picturisations are good but the music is ordinary.

Ugra Narasimha is a story of an honest young man, Narasimha, and his idealistic family. Narasimha's father (Sharat Lohithaswa) is an honest police officer, who does not like the misdeeds of his corrupt boss (Shobharaj).
He tries to expose his senior but Shobharaj manages to tarnish Sharat's reputation. Mohan tries to intervene but Shobharaj frames him and his sister.
That's when an angry Mohan tries to settle scores with Shobharaj.
Mohan has done his best but he is handicapped by a poor script. Sharat Lohithaswa, Shobharaj and Chitra Shenoy have performed their roles well but the rest of the cast turn in pedestrian performances.
Ugra Narasimha is good for one-time viewing only.
