He may have won several awards in life but Shah Rukh Khan does not mind getting a couple more.
When MTV announced him as its Youth Icon for 2005, a jubilant Khan said, "I feel good when I win an award. I feel my hard work is being recognised. I hope to entertain young people in future too with my films, as I have been doing all these years. I have tried to satisfy and entertain all age groups but the youth have been more entertained by my films."
The other nominees in the category were Congress president Sonia Gandhi, software tycoon Azim Premji, singer Sonu Nigam, cricketer Irfan Pathan, designer Manish Malhotra and tennis player Sania Mirza.
Shah Rukh lost out to Anil Ambani as the Youth Icon in 2003.
Last year, the Youth Icon had been cricketer Rahul Dravid.
The voting for Samsung & MTV Youth Icon 2005 was conducted from March 18 to May 1, and witnessed more than a 100,000 votes cast online, through SMS and calls.
Alex Kuruvilla, Managing Director, MTV Networks India, said, "The MTV generation was unanimous in their decision this time by stating King Khan Rules."
Asked to comment on the central government's decision to ban smoking on the screen, Shah Rukh, who is a smoker, said, "I feel the government must have done some research and ground work before taking such a decision. They have the authority to do so. I feel bans come and go. We have to respect the government's decision because they must have taken the decision after giving it proper thought."
