Charlize TheronSouth African actress Charlize Theron, who sparked national frenzy after becoming the first African to win the Best Actress Oscar Award, will now have a semi-precious stone named after her, a daily said.

Don't Miss!

Special: Oscars 2004

Steven Fine, a marketing manager for a jeweller based in Midrand, near Johannesburg, told the Star newspaper that he got the idea while he was watching the Oscar awards ceremony on television. He remembers thinking: "Why not dedicate something to Charlize?"

The stone -- a newly dicovered variety of amazonite with a quartz grain -- was found last week at a mine in Chalaua in Mozambique. Fine has decided to name it the Star of Charlize.

Fine compared the find to "discovering a new bird species".  The stone will be turned into jewellery and presented to Theron when she returns to South Africa next week. Once cut and polished, it will be aquamarine-turquoise with fine grey-blue stripes, Fine said. He, however, declined to put a value to the stone.

Theron will be feted at a gala dinner when she comes to South Africa and be honoured by President Thabo Mbeki. She is also scheduled to meet Nelson Mandela. But these engagements apart, her publicist said she wanted the visit to be low-key.  The 28-year-old stunner won the Oscar for her role in Monster, for which she embarked on a doughnut diet to put on 14 kilograms (30 pounds), to portray a disturbed real-life American prostitute who turned serial killer.
