Peter Jackson's The Return Of The King won five awards at the British Academy Film and Television Arts -- the BAFTAs -- in London on February 15.

Nominated in 12 categories, the film won best picture, cinematography, adapted screenplay and special effects and film of the year as voted by the audience.

The Return Of The King is the clear favourite to win best picture and best director at the Academy Awards on February 29 with 11 nominations.

Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World won four awards, including best director for Peter Weir. With nine Oscar nominations, Master And Commander had beaten The Return Of The King to the best film title at the London Film Critics Circle awards last week.

Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson won the best actor and actress awards respectively for their performances in Sofia Coppola's Lost In Translation.

Cold Mountain, which had 13 BAFTA nominations, won only in two categories: best supporting actress (Renee Zellweger) and best music. The best supporting actor was awarded to Bill Nighy (Love Actually).
