A still from AnaahatNoted director Amol Palekar's Anaahat (Eternity) received the Best Artistic Direction Award at the recently held World Film Festival in Bangkok. The festival was held between October 17 and October 26.

The Marathi film, which stars Sonali Bendre and Anant Nag, is the story of a Malla king in the 10th century and deals with feminine sexuality in a contemporary manner.

Thai artiste Naovarat Pongpaipoon, a jury member at the festival, said, "Anaahat presented Eastern philosophy, especially the relationship between human beings and eternity beautifully, with an excellent musical score."

The jury was headed by internationally renowned filmmaker Jiri Menzel of the Czech Republic. "It is always nice to be applauded by senior peers like Menzel," said Pakekar. "The three-year-old festival is still in its infancy but I am sure it will develop into a mature platform for Asian cinema," he added.
