Kate Winslet
Cake 'n' candles: October 5, 1975

Nominated thrice for an Oscar (for Sense And Sensibility, Titanic, and Iris), Kate Winslet is what you would expect a classic English beauty to be.

She made her debut in Peter 'Rings' Jackson's Heavenly Creatures, followed by an impressive act in Ang Lee's Sense And Sensibility. But she became an international star with James Cameron's blockbuster, Titanic.

Instead of capitalising on her unbelievable success, Winslet stayed away from Hollywood's grandeur. She continued to do unusual roles in films like Hideous Kinky and Holy Smoke.

Married to director Sam Mendes, Winslet is expecting her second child in 2004. She also has a three-year-old daughter Mia, from former husband James Threapleton.

The charmer's forthcoming assignments include J M Barrie's Neverland with Johnny Depp and The Eternal Sunshine Of A Spotless Mind with Jim Carrey, Elijah Wood and Kirsten Dunst.
