Plot: Tehzeeb (Urmila Matondkar) dislikes her mother Rukhsana Jamal (Shabana Azmi), a popular and ambitious singer, as she suspects her mother was the cause of her father’s (Rishi Kapoor) death.

She marries Arjun Rampal against her mother’s wishes and moves away. Her younger sister Nazneen (Dia Mirza), a mentally challenged girl, lives with them.

Things roll on for five years until Rukhsana decides to live with them for some time. The tension between mother and daughter escalates.
