SEZ land ceiling to remain 5000 hectares

August 07, 2008 19:25 IST
The government on Thursday decided to retain the 5000 hectares land ceiling on a special economic zone amid wide expectations of a review of the rules governing the land limit.

The Empowered Group of Ministers took up only the operational issues for review without tinkering the SEZ policy backed by a law.

"There is no policy change," Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath said after the meeting of EGOM headed by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee [ Images ].

The operational issues requiring clarity included the definition of vacant land and movement of goods from domestic tariff area to SEZs.
