Work at the Regional Office of the Reserve Bank of India was affected due to a strike today by the employees demanding recruitment of Class III staff and ban on outsourcing of core functions of the apex bank.
A statement issued by the Reserve Bank Employees Association said that acute shortage of Class III employees was affecting operations, particularly currency management.
As a result of the strike, cheques amounting to Rs 3000 crore (Rs 30 billion) were pending clearance. Inter-bank transaction through RTGS was also brought to a halt, the statement said.
The association said that unless the RBI authorities paid heed to their demands, agitation would be intensified.
