The Reserve Bank of India will take up 'financial literacy' programme to educate youngsters about basic banking transactions in a big way, RBI Deputy Governor V Leeladhar said on Monday.

Unveiling the Corpbank International Credit Card in Bangalore on Monday, he said brochures explaining the banking basics will be distributed in all primary schools.

The Andhra Pradesh government has come forward to bear the cost of printing the brochures, Leeladhar said.

He also called upon the banks to focus on financial inclusion and implement it in toto. Defining financial inclusion as providing financial services at an affordable cost, he said Himachal Pradesh has achieved 100 per cent financial inclusion, while Goa and Uttarakhand were close to it.

Reserve Bank of India has asked leading banks in Karnataka to take the initiative of financial inclusion. Districts of Kodagu and Chimagalur have already become financially inclusive, he added.
