After implementing quotas in educational institutions and government jobs, the government is set to introduce it in the private sector as well.

The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion has asked India Inc to incorporate data of SC/STs recruited from January 1, 2007 onwards in their annual reports for the financial year ending March 2007.

If the department is not convinced with the quantum of voluntary affirmative action by companies, it will enact a legislation for mandatory reservation in the first quarter of 2007-08.

Corporates, however, are wary of hiring their workforce on the basis of caste, as they believe it would create a rift between employees and affect the firms' productivity.

Do you support the government's move?  What do you think about job quota in the private sector?  Do you think it is a move in the right direction? Is this the right approach to help the lesser privileged? What are your suggestions?

Tell us what you feel.
