A group of ministers will meet in New Delhi on November 14 to deliberate on the issue on job reservation in the wake of a Supreme Court verdict directing exclusion of the 'creamy layer' from the benefit of quotas.

Headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, the GoM on reservation of posts and services for SCs, STs and OBCs includes Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Steel Minister Ramvilas Paswan, Law Minister H R Bhardwaj, Tribal Affairs Minister P R Kyndiah and Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Meira Kumar.

The meeting assumes significance as it is being held in the backdrop of the apex court's order for excluding the creamy layer in reservation as also government's effort for affirmative action on providing quotas to SCs and STs in the
private sector.

Official sources said on Wednesday the GoM deliberations will take place a day ahead of a meeting between the Centre and industry chambers to prepare a code of conduct on affirmative action to be adopted on job reservation in the private sector.

The November 15 meeting comes in the backdrop of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's observation that the industry must take steps on affirmative action for a more inclusive society.

The government has accordingly initiated wide-ranging consultations with industrial houses with a view to exploring ways to ensure affirmative action, including job reservation in the private sector.
