There is fear amongst various lobbies with Jet Airways [ Get Quote ] having taken over Air Sahara.

Will this lead to a monopoly in the skies, as Jet will now have over 50% of the share in the Indian market? Will the deal hurt you as a customer?

The Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission, inquiring into the Rs 2,300 crore (Rs 23 billion) takeover of Air Sahara by Jet Airways, has now forwarded the case to the Director General (Investigations and Registrations).

DGIR will submit a report in 3 weeks on whether the merger will lead to a cartelisation of air services. If it does, Jet would be able to quote higher tariffs.
