ICICI OneSource, India's leading business process outsourcing company, announced on Tuesday it would invest in setting up outsourcing centers in Northern Ireland, creating around 1,000 jobs over the next two years.

The investment, supported by Invest Northern Ireland is expected to deliver over £28 million in wages and salaries to the local economy by 2008.

"We are delighted to be in Northern Ireland and value the support and encouragement we have received from Invest Northern Ireland," said Ananda Mukerji, MD & CEO.

"We see tremendous opportunities in providing the UK's leading companies with world-class business process management services and will be looking to grow our business rapidly in the coming years.

"Northern Ireland has a proven track record in providing a large pool of talented people and an extremely conducive business environment and we intend to leverage this to global advantage."

Making the announcement, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Peter Hain MP said: "This investment illustrates the international confidence in, and the high growth potential of, Northern Ireland's contact center sector. As the second greenfield investment to be made in Mumbai by an Indian company, it clearly reinforces Northern Ireland as the most competitive near shore option for companies seeking a base to service western European markets."
