The Nasdaq-listed firm, celebrating its 25th anniversary, on Monday announced the arrival of 126 new recruits from Universities in the US as the first batch of the Infosys Global Talent Programme.
These new recruits, the largest group of foreign nationals recruited to work in India to date, begin their six-month, customised education programme at Infosys Global Education Centre in Mysore.
"We have to leverage the power of talent in different parts of the world," said the company Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy. "We in India will have to work hard to make sure that we attract hundreds, thousands of young, smart, bright students (from overseas). That's the only way Indian corporations can get globalised."
Nearly three per cent (around 1800) of Infosys' total employee strength of around 55,000 is non-Indian.
"We want to realise our ambition of being much more multi-cultural multi-ethnic, noting that 98 per cent of the company's revenues come from outside India," said Infosys board member T V Mohandas Pai.
"We want the percentage (of non-Indian employees) to grow at a faster rate than the growth in the total number of people," he added.
He said Infosys plans to hire 300 people from US universities next year. It's taking on board 25 people from UK later this year.
It's scouting for talent in the universities of Europe and Australia, he added. It's also looking to hire 100 professionals from China, similar to the figure last year.
