Do BPO frauds harm India's image?

July 05, 2006 12:39 IST

India's booming outsourcing sector has been hit by a fraud again.

This time, an HSBC BPO staffer has been accused of siphoning off Rs 1.8 crore from the accounts of around 20 customers from the HSBC India [ Images ] centre in Bangalore.

Some time ago, three former employees of MphasiS BFL's BPO operation MSource, and nine others, had defrauded 4 Citibank customers of about $350,000.

With the rising number of frauds, big salaries and high attrition rates, could India lose its position as the BPO king of the world? Do such frauds give India a bad name?

Or do you think the BPO sector in India will keep booming despite the setbacks?
