In the wake of the rape-cum-murder of a call centre employee in Bangalore, the National Commission for Women will on Tuesday hold a meeting with industry representatives to review the safety of women employees in the BPO (business process outsourcing) sector.

The commission has called call centre heads from the National Capital Region, police officials, non-governmental organisations as also representatives of the Call Centre Association of India for the meeting to discuss safety arrangements for women working in BPO units, an NCW spokesperson said.

"We would like to know from the management of the call centres what arrangements they have put in place for the safety of women employees," she said.

The call centre heads would also be asked about the problems that they are facing in making proper arrangements for their women workers and what are their expectations with the different agencies.

The meeting would also deliberate on a system to deal with cases of sexual harassment in such organisations.

It will come out with a set of recommendations on what arrangements the call centres need to make to ensure the safety of women working in the sector.

A young woman employee of a call centre was raped and murdered in Bangalore after being picked up from her workplace by a company car.

The incident prompted the NCW to seek a report from the Karnataka government, while the state women's commission has already launched an inquiry into the matter.
