Automated Teller Machines, which have revolutionised banking by giving customers access to fast cash and enabling payment of utility bills, may well be used for airline bookings and both cash- and cheque-deposit transactions with NYSE-listed NCR Corporation scouting for Indian banks to sell its new technology.
At a roadshow organised in New Delhi, NCR demonstrated a slew of latest technologies that offer customers much more than the traditional ease of withdrawing cash or paying utility bills.
"NCR is the first ATM manufacturer in the world to launch real-time airline booking services through ATMs, enabling customers to access flight schedules, select destinations and dates of travel," Geet Lulla, NCR country manager (sales) said while demonstrating the technologies developed by NCR.
IDBI became the first bank to use NCR's technology to offer online airline bookings to its customers for national carrier Indian.
The company is also offering other technologies to banks like envelope-free deposit of cash and cheques directly into the ATMs. Importantly, the software provides for the rejection of fake and soiled currency notes.
NCR currently caters to a host of banks across the country and also offer tailor-made solutions as per the needs of a bank, Anil Bhatia, sales director said.
The company has worked in collaboration with IIT Mumbai's Industrial Design Centre to develop ASAN, an India-specific ATM targeted at the rural areas where the telecom infrastructure is poor.
