Govt borrowings at Rs 54,354 cr

The government borrowings during the current fiscal up to July 23 are lower at Rs 54,354 crore (face value) as compared to Rs 70,307 crore (Rs 703.07 billion) raised in the same period last fiscal.

"Overall, the net resources raised through government securities (central, state and MSS) amounted to Rs 54,354 crore (face value) during 2005-06 so far compared with Rs 70,307 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year," RBI said in its quarterly review of the annual policy for current fiscal.

The central government has completed the net market borrowings of Rs 44,029 crore (Rs 440.29 billion), till July 23, 2005, about 39.9 per cent of the projected market borrowings for the current fiscal.

It has completed the net market borrowings of Rs 44,029 crore (39.9 per cent of the projected borrowings for the fiscal) and gross borrowings of Rs 66,312 crore (37.2 per cent of the fiscal), the RBI said.

The weighted average yield on government borrowings through dated securities increased to 7.24 per cent during the current year so far from 6.11 per cent in 2004-05, it said.

The state governments' borrowings were Rs 3,970 crore (net) and Rs 10,245 crore (gross) upto July 23, 2005, it said.

In addition to the normal market borrowings, the central government raised Rs 6,355 crore (face value) MSS for sterilisation purposes during 2005-06 up to July 23.
